INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR COLOUR CONSULTANT SYDNEY
Silvia Rajek Interiors provides interior and exterior colour consulting in Sydney for homes, apartments, renovations, new builds, commercial spaces and strata properties. Based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, our studio helps clients choose paint colours, finishes and cohesive palettes that work with the architecture, natural light, existing materials and the way the space is used.
Our colour consulting service goes beyond selecting a paint colour. We consider undertones, room orientation, fixed finishes, furnishings, flooring, cabinetry, stone, tiles, roof colours, render, brick, cladding, windows, doors and exterior details so the final scheme feels resolved, practical and beautifully connected.
Led by qualified interior designer and Certified True Colour Expert Silvia Rajek, the studio offers independent colour advice using Dulux, Resene and Benjamin Moore colours where appropriate. We are not affiliated with any paint company, which means every recommendation is guided by the project, not by a brand.

Interior Colour Consultation Sydney
Choosing interior paint colours can feel overwhelming, especially when every white, neutral, grey or beige changes once it is placed in your own home.
A colour that looks beautiful on a sample card can appear too yellow, too blue, too pink, too stark or too dark once it is affected by natural light, flooring, furniture, cabinetry, stone, tiles and surrounding finishes.
Our interior colour consultation service helps you choose colours with confidence, so your home feels considered, calm and connected rather than disjointed or unfinished.
This service is suitable if you are:
-
Unsure which white, neutral, grey, beige, greige or taupe will work in your home
-
Repainting and worried about choosing the wrong undertone
-
Renovating and need paint colours to work with flooring, tiles, stone or cabinetry
-
Redecorating around existing furniture, rugs or window treatments
-
Choosing wall, ceiling, trim, architrave or door colours
-
Trying to make a dark room feel more intentional, not simply painted white
-
Updating a tired interior and wanting a more modern, polished result
During the consultation, we assess your home’s natural light, room orientation, fixed finishes and the mood you want to create. Colours are compared in context, rather than chosen in isolation, so the final palette works with the whole space.
A standard interior colour consultation includes up to 1.5 hours on site and is usually suitable for approximately two to three rooms, depending on the level of detail required.
Larger homes, whole-home colour palettes or renovation projects involving multiple finishes may require additional time.
For clients redecorating around existing furniture, rugs, art or window treatments, our interior styling and decorating service can help bring the full scheme together.

Exterior Colour Consultation Sydney
The exterior of a property creates the first impression. The right colour scheme can modernise a tired façade, improve kerb appeal and bring the architecture, landscaping and fixed materials together.
Our exterior colour consultation service helps create a more considered and cohesive look for your property.
We can assist with:
-
Main exterior wall colours
-
Render, brick and cladding colours
-
Roof colour advice
-
Gutters, downpipes and fascia colours
-
Window frames, trims and doors
-
Garage doors
-
Fences, gates and screens
-
Pavers, stone and exterior fixed finishes
-
Strata buildings and apartment blocks
-
Exterior schemes for homes not yet built, using plans and elevations
When selecting exterior colours, we consider the property’s architecture, surrounding streetscape, landscaping, natural light and existing materials. This includes roof tiles, bricks, pavers, cladding, window frames, timber details and other fixed elements that influence the final result.
A standard exterior colour consultation includes up to 1.5 hours on site. For a focused exterior paint consultation, this may allow time to select the main exterior colour, trims, gutters and door colours.
Larger homes, full exterior schemes, roof colours, pavers, strata buildings or projects involving materials may require additional time and are quoted or charged separately.
Colour Consulting for Homes, Commercial Spaces and Strata
Silvia Rajek Interiors provides colour consulting for residential and commercial spaces across Sydney.
This includes:
-
Homes and apartments
-
Renovations and new builds
-
Offices and professional spaces
-
Retail and boutique business interiors
-
Strata buildings and apartment blocks
-
Exterior updates and façade refreshes
For homes, colour can transform the way a space feels, help modernise dated interiors or exteriors, and create a more cohesive connection between architecture, furnishings and finishes.
For commercial spaces, colour can influence atmosphere, client experience, brand presentation and the way people use the space. Our studio can assist with paint colours, finishes and material palettes that feel appropriate to the setting and practical for day-to-day use.
Commercial spaces, strata buildings and more complex projects are priced on application, as they may require additional site review, multiple scheme options, marked-up images or elevations, committee considerations, material sourcing or trade coordination.
If your project involves more than colour selection, our interior design services in Sydney can support you with layouts, finishes, furnishings and a more complete design direction.

Why Work With an Independent Colour Consultant?
Silvia Rajek Interiors is an independent colour consulting and interior design studio. We are not affiliated with any paint company, so our advice is guided by the space, the architecture, the light and the materials, not by one brand.
Our studio regularly specifies colours from:
-
Dulux
-
Resene
-
Benjamin Moore
The advantage of working with an interior design studio is that colour is considered as part of the whole environment. Paint is reviewed alongside flooring, furnishings, cabinetry, benchtops, tiles, stone, roof colours, brick, render, cladding, windows, doors and exterior details.
This creates a more cohesive result and helps avoid expensive colour mistakes before painting or renovating begins.

Help Choosing Whites, Neutrals and Dulux Colours
Whites and neutrals are some of the hardest paint colours to choose. A colour that looks fresh and soft in one home can look cold, creamy, yellow, grey, blue, pink or green in another.
During your colour consultation, we help compare whites, neutrals, greys, beiges, greiges and taupes in the context of your home or space.
We consider:
-
Natural light and room orientation
-
Reflected colour from gardens, flooring or nearby surfaces
-
Undertones in stone, tiles, benchtops and cabinetry
-
Existing furniture, rugs and window treatments
-
Whether the space needs a crisp white, warm white, off-white, cream, soft neutral, deeper tone or more expressive colour
Our studio has strong knowledge of Dulux colours and can help clients compare suitable options, including popular Dulux whites and neutrals such as Natural White, Snowy Mountains Quarter, White Exchange Half, Grand Piano Half, Grand Piano Quarter, Hog Bristle Half and Hog Bristle Quarter, where appropriate.
The goal is not to choose a colour because it is popular. The goal is to choose the right colour for your light, architecture, furnishings and fixed finishes.

Colour Consultation Process
1. Site review
We visit the property and review the areas where colour advice is needed. This includes the style of the home or building, existing finishes, natural light and any materials that are staying.
2. Understanding the brief
We discuss what you want to achieve. This may include a calmer interior, a more modern exterior, a warmer palette, better kerb appeal, a cohesive renovation scheme or colours that work with existing furniture and finishes.
3. Assessing light and undertones
We consider how colour will behave in the actual space.
This may include:
-
North, south, east or west-facing light
-
How much natural light each room receives
-
Reflected colour from gardens, flooring or nearby buildings
-
Light reflectance value, also known as LRV
-
Existing flooring, stone, tiles, benchtops and cabinetry
-
Furniture, rugs, fabrics and window coverings
-
Exterior materials such as roof, brick, render, cladding, pavers and landscaping
4. Comparing colours in context
Colours are compared against each other and against the fixed elements in the home or building. This helps avoid common mistakes, such as a grey reading too blue, a beige looking pink or a white feeling too stark, yellow or green
5. Refining the colour scheme
The options are narrowed into a clear colour direction. A standard residential consultation usually includes one recommended colour scheme, with small variations where time allows.
If multiple complete colour schemes are required, these can be arranged as an additional service.
6. Written colour schedule
After the consultation, we prepare a written colour schedule and arrange A4 paint colour cards where available. These are included in the consultation fee and posted to your home.
What You Receive After Your Colour Consultation
After your consultation, you receive a clear written colour schedule tailored to your home, apartment, commercial space or building.
Depending on the consultation, this may include:
-
Room-by-room paint colours
-
Paint brand and colour names
-
Wall, ceiling, trim, architrave and door colours
-
Recommended paint finish, such as matt, low sheen or semi-gloss
-
Exterior colours for walls, trims, gutters, doors, windows or other elements
-
A schedule and notes your painter can follow
-
A4 paint colour cards, posted to your home where available
-
Initial guidance on related materials or finishes, where discussed during the appointment
For more detailed exterior projects, we can also provide marked-up images or notes showing where each colour should be applied. This can be helpful for painters, owners and strata committees.

How to Test Paint Colours Before Painting
We always recommend testing selected paint colours before committing, especially for large areas, exterior walls, whites, neutrals and darker colours.
For the most accurate result:
-
Use a large piece of white cardboard
-
Paint two coats of the selected colour
-
Leave a clean white border around the painted area
-
Move the sample around the room or exterior
-
Check it in morning, afternoon and evening light
-
View it near flooring, cabinetry, stone, tiles, furniture or exterior finishes
This is more reliable than choosing from a tiny paint chip or painting a test patch directly over an existing wall colour, which can distort how the new colour appears.

Colour Consultation Examples
Exterior colour consultation: Coogee block of units
For a block of units in Coogee, our studio was engaged to update a tired exterior colour scheme and help the owners choose a more modern, cohesive palette.
The existing exterior had a red-toned finish with timber fencing and window screen details that had become dated. We prepared two exterior colour scheme options and supplied colour boards to make the decision easier.
The selected scheme used a softer greige-taupe tone for the main building and a deep grey-charcoal for the timber details. The front rendered brickwork was painted in the same exterior colour as the building, creating a more unified and contemporary look.
A photo printout of the property was also provided, showing where each colour should be applied.

Bathroom renovation colour and finishes: Maroubra
For a bathroom renovation, our studio helped create a palette around a feature mosaic tile with soft green tones. A coordinating green polyurethane vanity colour was selected to connect with the feature tile, while the floor tiles, wall tiles and vanity benchtop were chosen to keep the scheme balanced.
The result was playful, personal and cohesive without overwhelming the room.

Kitchen finishes and colour update: Matraville
For a kitchen update, our studio assisted with selecting a new stone for the benchtop and splashback. The stone was chosen to work with the existing cabinetry colour and flooring, creating a more connected and polished result without requiring a full kitchen replacement.
