Interior Styling for a Federation Home in Woollahra
Silvia Rajek Interiors provided interior furnishing and styling for this Federation home in Woollahra, Sydney. The owners wanted to refresh the interiors while respecting the character of the home, with a focus on the long hallway, main bedroom and children’s bedrooms. The project included furniture and homewares sourcing, colour direction, custom soft furnishings, artwork, lighting and final styling.
Project Overview
This Woollahra residence had beautiful traditional architecture, but the interiors needed more warmth, polish and cohesion. The brief was to update key areas of the home without losing the charm of the original Federation features.
The design approach was layered and considered, combining classic detailing, patterned textiles, custom pieces and decorative lighting to create a home that felt elegant, personal and more complete.
Styling the Hallway with Heritage Character
The long hallway became an important part of the home’s first impression. A new William Morris runner was selected to bring pattern, colour and a sense of history to the space. Custom artwork, a large mirror and chandeliers were sourced to add detail, light and visual interest while working with the home’s Federation character.
The aim was to make the hallway feel more resolved, rather than simply a passage between rooms.

Master Bedroom Furnishing and Soft Furnishings
In the main bedroom, the walls were refreshed with a new paint colour and the existing bedhead was re-covered in a new fabric. Custom curtains and bedding were designed to complement the updated colour scheme and soften the room.
A commissioned metallic artwork, chandelier, mirrored furniture, crystal lamps and textural fabrics were added to create a more glamorous and layered bedroom while keeping the room comfortable and liveable.

Children’s Bedroom Styling
For the children’s bedrooms, new fabrics were selected for custom sheer curtains, block-out curtains, cushions, bedheads and valances. New bedside tables and playful commissioned artwork were also sourced for the daughter’s bedroom.
The result was a more finished and personal bedroom scheme, with practical soft furnishings and decorative details suited to everyday family living.

Design Approach
This project was about refreshing a traditional Woollahra home through carefully selected furnishings, colour, lighting, textiles and artwork. Rather than changing the architecture, the styling enhanced the home’s existing character and helped each room feel more cohesive, comfortable and considered.
